As you can probably imagine, I set my DVR to record all of the FLW and BASS tournaments. Last night I sat down to watch the FLW Tour event from Lake Toho in Florida and saw Hulk Hogan flexing in a Fantasy Fishing T-shirt...What the hell is Hulk Hogan doing endorsing Fantasy Fishing? Whose ideas was that? What does a washed-up wrestler have to do with fishing? I paused the show and went to the FLW website; guess what....yep - Hulkamania is alive and well at FLW Outdoors!
Now, I don't have anything aginst "The Hulkster", but come on - the guy is a trainwreck. Have you seen his Television show? I am curious to know how FLW Outdoors came to the conclusion that he would be a good spokesman?
What about Rowdy Roddy Piper or Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka or "Nature Boy" Ric Flair? All of these guys are WWE Hall of Famers and are all probably looking for a little work. What does all this have to do with fishing? About as much as Hulk Hogan does...nothing. That being said, my vote would have been for Sgt. Slaughter with "Nature Boy" Ric Flair a close second.

I'll cast my vote for Sgt. Slaughter too.
Lest we forget to whom we are referencing...
A "Professional" Wrestler. Professional is in quotation marks because I believe (as well as a great many others) that this term is use VERY loosely in regards to this theatrical event. Yes theatrics! My wife grew up with a fellow that entered the semi-pro ring of local wrestling, only find out HE had to PAY to get his tail thrown around the ring! Until he could convince the fans & the League owners that he would make a better Good/Bad Guy "Character" than a whipping post. All the while PAYING for this "Opportunity" for exposure.
Basically, that is what FLW has invested in...EXPOSURE. Hulk Hogan made his name a household word in the Rocky Movie (2, 3...can't recall-too many to keep up with anyway!). Even with his current, off color, cable "reality" show, the Hulk has managed to maintain reasonable media exposure. Enough to "land" his newest "gig" with FLW.
I believe the diehard tourney foloowers have paid little/no attention to FLW Fantasy Fishings figure head and more to the large payout, as well as creative format for their league. I know I have! Great blog...Should spark a lot of additional feedback!
